Scouting is fun and helps young people develop interests and skills. It provides adventure and challenges for young people and can contribute greatly to building self-confidence.

18th Bristol is a popular group so we run waiting lists for most of our sections. If your child would be interested in joining us, please complete the Cabot Scouts waiting list enquiry form.

Volunteer

Everyone whose children are involved in scouting would agree that it has an incredibly positive impact on young people, and scouting totally relies upon the input of volunteers. Some people fully 'buy in' to the world of scouting and become leaders, or get involved at district level. Others choose to help out regularly but more infrequently.

A recent survey of volunteers found that over 90% of them believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives, and a study of volunteers found that more than two thirds of respondents reported a direct correlation between their volunteer experience within Scouting and gaining employment or career development. So it's clear that there's a lot to be gained through becoming involved.

As you know, our long-standing leaders are moving on to pastures new after many years of dedicated service. So, it's up to the rest of us to pitch in and make it work. A lot of parents have come forward and have taken on a variety of roles, but we always need more support. Maybe you’re a whizz at languages, or you’ve got an interesting job/hobby that you could come to tell the group about? Or maybe you would be prepared to see one of our groups through the achievement of a badge if it fits with your interests or skill sets? Or perhaps you’d be happy to help out occasionally? When you see how much you child gets out of scouting it’s quite nice to feel that you’re putting something back.

Just speak to your group leaders if you can spare the time to help out.
